SJB Issues Statement Over Fake Media Release

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has issued a statement warning that a fake media release is being circulated on social media by certain parties, falsely claiming that the position taken by the party’s Municipal Councillor, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, against the importation of substandard medicines does not reflect the party’s official stance.

Below is the statement issued by the party:

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya, the only political party that has consistently raised its voice and taken legal action against the substandard pharmaceutical mafia, has also openly opposed the importation of substandard Ondansetron injections that took place under the current National People’s Power (NPP) government.

At a time when our party’s Municipal Councillor, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa—who has continuously spoken out against the importation of substandard medicines in Sri Lanka—is once again taking firm action against this anti-public practice, we have learned that certain parties have created and circulated a fake media release on social media claiming that his stance does not represent the position of our party.

We urge the public not to be misled by this fake media release. I wish to strongly emphasize that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, including myself, will continue to stand firmly against the pharmaceutical mafia that plays with the lives of the people of this country.

We further stress that all members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will provide unwavering support to our Municipal Councillor, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, who bravely stands against the substandard pharmaceutical mafia, and that we remain fully committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of the citizens at all times.
